February 1, 2012 (INDIANAPOLIS) — Comments from Indiana Chamber of Commerce President Kevin Brinegar on the passage of right-to-work legislation (House Bill 1001) by the Indiana Senate, which sends the bill to Gov. Daniels to be signed into law:
“With the passage of right-to-work, Indiana has further distinguished itself from neighboring states and given companies another big reason to bring their business and jobs here – and not there. This is the latest in a long line of actions to help make Indiana one of the most attractive climates for business relocations and expansions.
“Hoosier workers also will have the choice now of whether or not to join a union. People in Indiana and across the country recognize the critical importance of such a freedom of choice. Other state legislatures are seeing the value in trying to provide those choices and opportunities for individuals and companies.
“Congratulations to Indiana’s legislative leaders and Governor Daniels for once again positioning our state well ahead of the competition.â€Background:A January 29-30 Rasmussen Reports national poll of 1,000 likely voters finds that 74% agree that workers should not be required to pay union dues (15% say the dues should be required and 11% are not sure). In addition, several states – including Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire and Maine – have indicated they will be refocusing their efforts to pass right-to-work as a result of the action in Indiana.
